* Special effects galore: Fog, lightning with properly delayed thunder, parallaxing skies, real lights that illuminate walls (you can shoot the lights and the room gets darker), ricocheting bullets, wind sounds, and more.
* Jump pads will spring you up into the air to jump over obstacles, walls, other players, (great in multiplayer games) and even to reach new weapons.
* Many useful objects and power-ups, like a fireproof vest, gas mask, Mercury mode (enables the player to fly!), and even a special "god" and "dog" modes, both making the player invincible for a short time (with hilarious side effects).
* 32 page full color game manual.

Thief II, actually, but more than close enough for the door prize.
Surprised no one's gotten the first one yet though. Gods know you musta seen that display 5000 times if ya played the game - albeit, several games used the same engine, but the clues be there. I'll let it sit a lil longer...

I know i've seen that D_CheckNetGame line before. Doom sounds like it might be the right answer, but I'm going to guess Duke Nukem 3D as that's the only early FPS i remember playing online.

ScoutsOA got the cookie first - Doom2 more specifically (hence the "____2.wad"). Although, if yer first FPS was Duke Nukem 3D, ye may have an age handicap on him, and they do share a partial engine, so +1 internets as a consolation prize.
The Picard one *should* be easy, although I'll give the hint: tis more recent, and fantasy oriented.
