So, I am using a CRT and at 1600x1200 (my preferred resolution) I am limited to 75 Hz refresh rate. Does it still make sense to goto 100 fps?

I don't want 'splosions and stuff....I'm saving my pennies for a Dell 24" (the 2407FPW) :D

EDIT: It was inevitable, the change from CRT -> LCD. I'm going to be sad leaving it behind though. It's been great. I hope the response time is good for the Dell...

Okay, can one of you FPS tuning nuts here tell me how to get the Vsync to stay ON in TF2?

I recently upgraded from an nVidia EVGA 7950GTKO to a BFG 8800GT OC (cuz the 7950 was always causing me problems). The 8800 is great and all, but while the 7950 gave me about 150fps in TF2, which caused a lot of screen tearing, the 8800 gives me 250fps, which causes a metric ton of screen tearing... My monitor's refresh is 72hz (for techincal reasons), and thus my screen splits in at least 3-4 places with every frame of movement. It actually usually winds up splitting in like 10 or 12 places - and it looks like friggen legoland every time I move, or whenever someone moving goes past me.

I've got mat_vsync 1, I've tried it at 0, -1, and 2. I've tried it every which way on the advanced graphics options, and I assume it just sets the same var. I've also tried regedit'ing the mat_vsync entry.

I've got force vsync on in my drivers. I've tried application controlled, and off.

Any combination of those seems to leave it off, and it's absolutely unbearable that way. I don't have this problem in HL1 games (granted, they are OpenGL, and that's probably why). I tried nHancer, no go. I also tried accessing the old style control panel, but the old DirectX vsync option doesn’t want to show, and the vsync settings seem to have the same effect.

Any idears or other third party utilities that may fix this?

Never been an issue for me in any other game... You have an nVidia card and have managed to get it working in TF2?

Nein - the 8800GTOC is big enough a waste as it is, considering the only game I really play regularly is NS. >_>

I'm using Forceware 169.21 - but I know if I go with older drivers it corrupts the display in Half-life2 (likely elsewhere as well). Tis one of the downsides to a newer card I suppose - needs the newer drivers. :(

Rivatuner doesn't seem to have any vsync options (kinda odd, as I remember it having oogles of options before.)

Actually, Vsync works fine in FF... This seems to be just TF2. >_>
