Watched Jyu-Oh-sei. Overall I liked it, but (and this is one of the few times I'll say this) it would've benefited from being a 2-season show instead of a single.
Also watched Death Note on Hulu and most of Mushi-shi before it was taken down.
Then while browsing I came across the Slayers 42-DVD Box Set and decided to pick it up. Seriously, the thing is like 6 inches thick with nothing but dual-dvd paged plastic. It beats out the Slider's seasons 1-2 DVD set for crazy packaging.
I haven't actually managed to see much of slayers, but it's liked enough in my trading circles that It'll be easy to move if I don't enjoy it.
In other news, they Re-released Irresponsible Captain Tylor which is one of my favorites, you should check it out.

Saw the first 3 episodes of the new season of Spice and Wolf at the Dallas Anime Fest over the weekend. Seems just as good as the first 16 were, and probably worth checking out if you liked them.
Didn't really get a chance to see a whole lot of others unfortunately but thought that was at least worth mentioning.
There was another amazingly fanservicy one where the females wore armored bikini's and shot steam from their nipples. Can't remember the name of it though.

OMG YAY!
I'll have to go lookin' for that... I only just got the first season on DVD too.
Never could stand Slayers, but I did just recommend it to a friend who was lookin' for long series to watch with his kids... Granted, his alternative was DBZ. Still, my old Bostonian friends all swore by it.
Any other ideas for long anime series to recommend for kids between 8 and 13? Excluding Inu Yasha, Sailor Moon, Pokemon, Tenchi, Naruto, and I think Yu Yu Hakisho, which they've evidentially covered already.

Thothy,
I would recommend Hikaru no Go for that. Not sure if you consider 75 episodes long, but it was a great animu and is appropriate for kids.
And yay, more Spice and Wolf!

How could I forget GANTZ for a younger audience? I must be losing it.

Greeeeat, now I actually have to *watch* Hikaru No Go to make sure you aren't fugging with me. >_>
I think it has to be in Engrish though - kids are a bit young/impatient for subs. Two boys in this case - the older sister grew up and moved out, hence their Sailor Moon trauma.
...I think anything over 13 episodes is long enough to buy poor dad some time.
Oh yeah, they did Full Metal Alchemist as well.

Ugh, the voices in Black Lagoon are hard to suffer through.
Is all anime this bad? The animation just kinda makes the mouths kinda jiggle to simulate speaking.
><
Also the intro music is good but the chic singing says "Angerr" instead of "Angel" and it makes me wince. lol

It's kinda growing on me though, the dialog is smart and I like the chic character, heh.

It is if you're watching it in engrish, seeing as the animation is there to match Japanese dialog, and isn't the greatest at that in most cases anyway.
