I remember the original UT vaguely. Think I fiddled with it back when I was playing Quake2 CTF, and went "meh". Just kinda chaotic.
UT2k4 I have fond memories of though. That node defense game, coupled with a few plugins (such as sentries) made it a strategy feast that could almost hold a candle to NS. Sadly, also, full of griefers and tweens - a fate shared by many an on-line game. (As opposed to now, where it's just bots, no doubt - yet another fate shared by many an on-line game.)

UT2k4 was excellent. I really wish bombing run would have taken off. That's the closest thing to a sports game i've ever enjoyed playing. The node defense game was pretty good too. The only problem i had with both UT and UT2k4 was that they both had a ridiculous amount of server plug-ins and horrible custom maps. It was hard to find a good server.
