Post subject:  Port Forwarding

I have tried to set up port forwarding on my 2Wire DSL Modem/wireless router. I've followed all the guidlines on the 2wire support website, and under the router settings it even shows that this port is forwarded. Yet when I test the port via http://www.canyouseeme.org it appears to still be blocked. Does anyone have any ideas what I am doing wrong?

Is your local IP static? Does it match te settings on the router?

Are you set for DMZ - if so you may wish to unset this, as some routers/apps don't play nice with it.

Do you have the option to open the protcal for UDP as well as TCP?

Is the application actually using that port? Can it be made to use another?

Is de winderz firewall on?

Yes and yes.

no

Yes, I tried forwarding the UDP as well but it didn't make a difference. (both are currently forwarded)

yes, and yes, but that doesn't seem to matter because I can't get any of my ports forwarded, I've tried other ports (5000, 4000, 2000) as tests and none of them could be accessed.

Are you routing the open port to your machine?

Author:  TheDoc [ Mon Feb 18, 2008 3:30 pm ]
Post subject:

Yes, this particular router routes by device name. My computers name is TheDoc. But even if it didn't the local ip is static, so it never changes. It is deffinately forwarded to that machine.

The only thing I can think of is maybe there is a firewall on the machine that I don't know about.

I only asked since it was not shown in the pic. Are you positive the windows firewall is off?

Maybe you can post a list of your active processes in your task manager?

lol I saw that as I was posting and thought wow I've really let this machine go.

Give me a break, its an oooooold machine, and heavily used. I gave up trying to patrol the processes years ago. What she really needs is a good reformatting, but I don't have my windows installation disc with me right now, so that's not within the scale of available options as of now. Plus, I would have an unbearable amount of things to back-up without an external hard drive or dvd writer.

Did I mention this machine is old?

Think he's been through everything there.

There's so many fubar programs running, any one of those could be fuxing with it. My best guess, without researching them all (for which I would have to charge you :P) would be McShield.exe... Ye may have some sort of Mcafee firewall going.

If that fails, play with msconfig, and just disable every non-microsoft service and startup you aren't using (keep some record of what you disabled).

hmm are there any programs i can download that will allow me to simulate trying to ping the port while running safe mode?

If networking is on, you should be able to use the same webpage you used before - however - safe mode does not stop all programs from loading. A lot of those will still load up.

If you uncheck the services and programs in msconfig, and make a note as to which you unchecked, you should be able to re-enable them later without issue.
