Yes she could

Min system reqs off my HL2 box
1.2Ghz CPU
256MB of ram
DX7 level card
4.5GB of HDD space
windows 2000 or above
mouse
keyboard
internet connection

And off my orange box box
1.7Ghz CPU
512MB of ram
DX8 level card
windows 2000 or above
mouse
keyboard
internet connection
DVD drive

And it seems that even with the gimped DX8 support the MX line had, some people have got it running TF2

Edit: Incidentally the gimped DX8 support on the MX line is probably the issue you are facing.

Buy a video card. AGP cards are super cheap, but you'll be throwing your money away since it won't work with a new system you buy.

If you're looking to upgrade I can build you a machine for under $500 just off newegg. All core components, you need monitor, mouse, hard drive and keyboard.

I'm going to guess its your video card. The Geforce 4 MX series is not compatible with openGL. I'm not positive but that might be what hl2/tf2/source runs on. I would put all my money its your stinker video card.

Back many moons ago i had an emachine with a geforce 4 mx 440. That was the video card which swore me off Nvidia cards to this very day. It couldn't run ANYTHING.

If you're buying a new computer, don't bother upgrading it, agp is dead. If you're building a new computer go with a PCI express motherboard and get yourself a pci express video card.

Pure wrong

Read this

for proof of open gl 1.3 support

The source engine runs on direct 3d (direct X)
