I've never had to pay for my net in a hotel (everwhere I've gone they've just have a hotspot that covers the whole thing - save once in Peru where I did have to shell $2). But even the Holiday Inn doesn't pay for a full time tech, I'm sure (and certainly not the Hilton). Sometimes you don't even need a password or login page and it's just an open WEP (I know this is true of the hotel near where I get my car fixed, for I use theirs while I'm waiting). I'm sure they all just pay some company to hook it up and come out when it breaks and otherwise it's just the standard hotel staff.

i dont have access to any of the hardware, i cant reset the network or anything. the "phoneroom" is locked.
at the marriott that i worked at,i frequently had to reset the whole hotel's connection becuase it would stop working.
Can you reset a network using ssh need internet access first though. Looks like your dogging days are done dude-areno

i have been typing these messages on a computer at the front desk, not my laptop.
its wierd because its like there are three different networks i can connect to in this hotel.

-the wireless connection in the lobby, which has me blocked;

-an ethernet cord in the back office, which has me blocked;

-and the ethernet cord used by the computer at the front desk. this connection seems to be much slower for some reason. steam wont even connect, it asks if i want to exit or saty in offline mode. i can surf the net on mty laptop with this connection, but cannot play ns. i used this connection to download MacMakeUp onto my laptop.

Ah shit I forgot to check the thread.

Hrm... try changing your hostname and mac address, then refresh your IP address by running:

ipconfig /release

&

ipconfig /renew

K so umm...

To change your hostname in windows:

right click "My Computer"
click "Properties"
click "Computer name" tab
click the "Change" button
type new computer name in the first field
click ok
restart computer

DHCP by definition does not use the host name to lease addresses, but i imagine whatever tracking software they have is looking at more than one factor.

As far as changing your MAC address, you seem to have followed the guide well enough, I just want you to do one more thing:

AFTER you randomize your MAC with that little gem of a tool,
run ipconfig /all (like you did before)
and paste the results here.

Next we will try assigning you a static address that isn't already in use if that does not work.

Networks are easy mannnn.

However, working backwards from humbold's perspective at the client side can be a serious bitch.

Especially if you have no idea whats on the other end of that cat-5 or wifi-AP as far as their network.

ummmmm, i see that i gives u info about the network i am currently connected to. in previous posts i stated that in order to post the "ipconfig/all" i had to use the internet connection from the front desk. this is not a connection that i can connect to steam on, so this is the wrong network to pay attention to.
so... here is the ipconfig when this connection is unplugged and the computer is connected to the wireless, but local only. i dont know if this matters, but here it is:
