This is ridiculous. If you're going to have this in, either put the code in the FORUM FAQ (since thats the one they'll go to, since its the only one linked on that page), OR mention that its on the main page. Theres not even a link to the main page from the forums; i had to guess that removing the '/phpbb2/...' from the site would bring me to the main page, and this was only AFTER i went into the server and asked wtf was up with this non-existent code. A few people told me they had the exact same problem.
No wonder your new registrations are down so much.

You wouldn't believe the amount of spam bots were dumping on this board prior to putting in that registration code. If it seems excessive, or if new registrations are down as a result... well, IMO, it's a price worth paying in order to keep out all that crap.

actually i didn't know that our registration numbers were down. Seems to be some healthy crap conversations on the board as usual.

I think the VIP code is supposed to be in our server's MOTD or something - but ain't.
We got sick of bots registering... We'll take less registrants, if it also means less pr0n ads. TYVM.
I don't think our legit post count has caught up with the mess our bots made in the wasteland yet.

I talked to Stix about this when he was on the game server.
What he is referring to is not that fact that you guys use a code, but the location of the code itself.
When you register for the forums, it tells you that the code is located in the FAQ. Both Stix and I took a brief look on the web site and found the "FAQ" located right at the top of the forum next to the "Search" link (the one you can see right now).
What the forums don't tell you is that this site actually has two FAQ's, one for the forums created by our friends at phpBB, and one on the front page of the main site created by the jiggly man.
It would be of great help if you specified that the code was on the main page FAQ and/or put a copy in the forum FAQ. It took me about 10 minutes to figure that out because I opened the forum page in a new window to get rid of the frames...

It's a persistence test, to weed out lazy, unwanted forumites!

I see no problem here

Heh, well it goes like this.
I wanted to register, so i went through it.
It said 'look for the VIP code at the bottom of the FAQ'.
I go to the top of the screen, and see 'FAQ'.
Its a huge freaking document. I then spend 10 minutes combing through this b****, because its definitely not at the bottom... or so i think. Maybe it meant the bottom of the 'registration' section? or bottom of the page, past the questions? Etc etc. It got me pretty irritated, which i dont think is the first impression you want your forums to give. Its a simple change to help future users.... not bots.

i would have ctrl+f.
If i were you i would be less concerned with the first impression that the forums give you and more concerned with the first impression you gave us.

I agree with Hornet. This guy is a moron and needs to die. Anyone who sits here and complains because he can't come on the forums to complain....needs to die. I'm on my way with a torch to light his house on fire, I suggest a few of you come with me, because I have beer.

It's not really that big of a deal. If you spent 10 minutes looking for a code thats bad.

The first thing i did was ctrl-f.
Fine, if you guys dont want to take a simple suggestion to heart, its your forums that'll suffer.
