Custom NS Maps?

Should we have any unofficial maps on the Natural Selection server?
Hell no, leave the server alone! 54%  54%  [ 7 ]
I wouldn't mind seeing unofficial maps, as long as they emulate the theme (IE, no ns_siege or MVM) 38%  38%  [ 5 ]
I love ns_Siege! Put tons of custom maps on there! 8%  8%  [ 1 ]

new maps require people to learn them in order to have a real game. it'll take . . . 6 months? for a decent percentage of players at any given time learn a map, and people that don't play semi-regularly in the JR might not know it at all.
*nod*... However, I'll compromise with you.

I'll toss mineshaft back into rotation. His pinkness seems to more or less have jumped on the idea.

The vets should all be familiar with mineshaft, and the folks who aren't, aren't going to be all that phased by a new map anyways, as most of the maps probably still seem pretty fresh in their eyes.

We don't have a content server ATM - but I host one of my own, and I don't think it'll get wracked too hard before Jiggly sets up a new one (I think our old one was on the old box). So downloads should be fairly fast (cross fingers).

Then you will, ever so sadly, miss out on the fun of downloading it again.

People don't even like the new NS maps put out by the team - nevermind the third party maps, most of which are really crappy. Sure, there's a few good ones out there, but they are the exception rather than the rule, and even then, most of them are CO – takes too much time to make an NS maps, vs CO maps, and infinitely more effort to make them well.

This is ridiculous.

Newbies whine, Veterans adapt.

NS is never going to be a thriving community if we keep whining about change. The maps I'm thinking of are NOT crappy, they're done really well. ns_nirvana, ns_rampage, and ns_orbital are all really well done, it just takes time to get used to them. Mainly those are the 3 that I'd like to see in the rotation, and they're not some hack job that someone put together.

I've had many a fun night on the old TeamHoward server playing those. Pitched battles that kept going back and forth, it was great.

For christ's sake, at least LOOK at the maps I'm talking about before everyone gets pissy and says they don't want it in rotation.

We should organize a play test time with the regs and check them out together.

What game have you been playing for the past several years? Obviously it's not NS. ;)

For better or worse, games were truly epic in those days. Hardly ever did one finish in less than like half an hour!

we just played mineshaft, game was only 45 minutes, but I have to say, I've never heard that Jigglypuff song before, and that is one of the gayest songs I've ever heard, which works perfect for my spray though.

PS. This is the gayest song I've ever heard OK 2B GAY
