I download torrents from the piratebay with Azureus Vuse. Not a whole lot of stuff, just a couple games here and there.. some shitty quality movies once in a while. I'm not a huge uploader or anything, but I do allow my torrents to seed while I'm downloading.
I got this email from comcast -
---
Dear Comcast High-Speed Internet Subscriber:
Comcast has received a notification by a copyright owner, or its authorized
agent, reporting an alleged infringement of one or more copyrighted works made
on or over Comcast's High-Speed Internet service (the 'Service'). The copyright
owner has identified the Internet Protocol ('IP') address associated with your
Service account at the time as the source of the infringing works. The works
identified by the copyright owner in its notification are listed below. Comcast
reminds you that use of the Service (or any part of the Service) in any manner
that constitutes an infringement of any copyrighted work is a violation of
Comcast's Acceptable Use Policy and may result in the suspension or termination
of your Service account.
Copyright work(s) identified in the notification of claimed infringement:
Infringing Work: The Sopranos
First Found: 15 Mar 2008 17:24:48 EDT (GMT -0400)
Last Found: 15 Mar 2008 17:24:48 EDT (GMT -0400)
Protocol: BitTorrent
Torrent InfoHash: A0527B55C992215BFA10D661E3189FBA8503E663
Containing file(s):
The Sopranos s01e01 SWESUB DVDRip XviD.avi (366,368,768 bytes)

So, does anyone know a way to protect my IP from these guys. I was thinking Peerguardian, but I want to know if it really works, or if there's something better.
I know there's some smart dudes on these boards, and would love some input.

Actually, I've heard of this. I haven't personally dealt with anyone that got one of these letters, but it's not enforceable in court. An IP address is not a person, it's a computer, and they can't very well sue your computer.
I have done lots of illegal torrenting and never gotten a letter, I would recommend you just stay away from things that might get you caught. Like, the Sopranos.

Might I recommend not using the pirate bay. This is not a torrent packet issue (where encryption would be helpful). But a marked tracker issue. My old ISP did this shit based it off of http requests to indexed torrents.

No, the issue is NOT peer related. The issue is that the http request of the torrent file download is being detected.

It's most likely peers Yogurt. If it was Comcast watching for HTTP requests, you might ask them why they think they have the right to eavesdrop on your communications without a warrant. Or better yet, why they'd be spending money on monitoring equipment for it instead of network equipment.
What has probably happened is RIAA/MPAA has one of their computers downloading the same file, and recording all the IP addresses of peers it receives, then notifying the ISPs of those people in the US.
Also, sucks to be in the US.

Could be. I do recall a company (media create?) leaked a ton of piracy info in terms of fake torrent reports, ip logs, etc...
