Improving LCD Performance?

So, I just bought a Dell 24" widescreen monitor and it looks like sex for movies (sometimes literally), but its gaming performance is so-so. At 1920 x 1200, I can only get 60 Hz. When I'm bunny hopping now, the screen becomes a big blur and it becomes hard to spot out aliens or marines. I'm finding it harder to land my shots and bites :(

Are there any ways to boost my LCD's performance in NS? Locane I'm looking at you...

not without it exploding. :(

I have a 22" and its stuck at 60 hz too . . . if you put your fps close to an integer multiple of 60 it looks better, but it still kinda sucks.

Also, can anyone confirm that textures and stuff look kinda ugly at 1900 x 1200? Compared to 1600 x 1200 that I used to play on, the texture and stuff look not so good.

I have an LCD. I just got used to it. I think there is a program called Reforce or something like that to enchance your hertz, but I never really tried it as it can do serious damage (I have heard) to your monitor.

LCDs are a different technology from CRTs. They simply cannot update as fast. Look for a low response time when buying an LCD for gaming >=8ms
If that's not good enough for you gb2/crt/

I concur with Yogurt. As someone in the display biz, I can tell you that CRTs are amazingly good at many things compared to other display technologies: contrast ratio, range of displayable colors, refresh rate, viewing angle, cost, etc. If you lined up a CRT with an LCD and compared specs, the CRT would undoubtedly win in most categories. The big blur you see is most likely motion blur - the electronics in the LCD respond ultra fast, but the liquid crystal is still a liquid, and the elastic forces between the molecules resist the electric forces trying to align them.

The two main reasons why LCDs and other flat panel technologies are taking over are image (thin flat panels are secksie, duh!) and scalability. Try to imagine scaling a CRT to a 60" diagonal. It would dwarf a rear-projection TV, which was the only reasonable large-format option back in the day.

I plan on keeping my CRT for gaming until it dies.

Yeah, I just wish it was easier to switch from one to the other :(

Anyways, here's a photo I snapped of my new desktop:

Oh yes, I <3 my mouse 8)

However, whats wrong with MS Office, especially if I got it free?! And Nero? Came with my DVD burner. I usually use MP Classic for my movies, VLC sometimes. mIRC I don't use much. Is there a better IRC client?

Your video card doesn't support two monitors? If you angle some things, t looks like you have enough desk space to squeeze a CRT on there. Then you're in business.

Desk space is lacking for that setup. I had 2 monitors for a while, but it was just impossible.

Oh and the keyboard needs to go, agreed. Its from an old MicronPC (anyone remember that brand?) from 7 years ago.

Usually for "pure" gamers, they look for at least 2 MS response on their monitors.

I have a Samsung 22 inch hooked up dual with my 16 inch laptop as my work station, and then just run the Samsung for games.

I get no shearing at all. I don't worry about my refresh rate, either, because I don't get any blurring (or once again, any shearing) whatsoever.
