Moved the minecraft.panduck.com URL to Lando’s MC portal (lando.panduck.com). He’s done an excellent job of getting in the latest server stats, news, links, etc., all in a one-stop-shop kind of destination. Check out all the real time chatter, points of interest, and most importantly – who the biggest addicts are (not it!).
Also – updated the MCMap URL since its data sits in a different path. I’ll change the back end stuff at some point but meh – just use the updated link already.
Updated the server to the v1.0-Final. Cleared out the world and started anew to make way for the final version of the terrain generation engine. Also – updated the map seed so you don’t start off in the middle of the ocean
Windows 7/Vista: Clobber the minecraft.jar in your “C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\bin” directory with the new one. Now run your usual Minecraft launcher. That’s it!
MacOS: Clobber minecraft.jar in “/Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/minecraft/bin” with the updated .jar file. Now run with the usual Minecraft launcher.
All your stuff should still be in the server. Enjoy
MacOS Protip: You’ll probably have to use terminal to move the jar file into the target directory. The GUI seems to hide stuff.
Windows Protip: Getting constant memory related crashes? Install a genuine 64-bit Java build and force Minecraft to use it by explicitly pointing to the 64-bit executable. Sample batch file:
minecraft64.bat:
@ECHO OFF
"C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\java.exe" -Xmx1024M -Xms512M -jar "c:\games\Minecraft\minecraft.exe"
Be sure to have to have it execute the launcher, not the .jar file or it won’t work. Most crashes should magically disappear.
Fyi, the IPs are going to change… again. The migration should be fairly transparent but might take some time for people who have to wait for DNS TTL expiration. Unfortunately, the gaming servers are broadcast through Steam via IP instead of hostname so anyone that had the servers saved are going to have to do another search. Not that it matters really – the HLDS/SRCDS servers have been dead since the games we run aren’t favored by the cool kids anymore. All this processing power and bandwidth but nothing to run. Any suggestions?
So the servers are back but as you guys may have noticed, the IPs have changed. Can’t be helped – moved the servers to a different provider with a different IP space so not much I can do there. All the servers are turned back up but for some reason, I can’t keep the TFC server up. Probably has something to do with the plugins but meh – nobody really plays on it anyways. Looking to run a new game so if anyone has any suggestions, head on over to the forums and let us know.
Whew, that downtime was ugly, wasn’t it? Long story short: lost the server’s complimentary internet services and had to opt for a more commercial approach. Colocation sites aren’t cheap… Glad that’s all behind us now
I’ll turn up the servers again once the billing stuff gets sorted out. Until then, welcome back!
The server may go down tonight and will be offline for anywhere from 12 to 48 hours. It’s basically being physically moved from the 11th (?) floor of the 1 Wilshire building downtown and into the 9th floor. The provider is going to be the same and so is the IP space so nothing should really change. Heads up!
Since we’re running L4D servers now (10 of them to be exact), now’s probably a good time to build up your Steam friends network and find JR regulars to play with! That’s why I’ve setup an official Steam Community group:
